CIVIL SOCIETY

The concept of civil society encompasses all forms of social action undertaken by individuals or groups that are neither connected to nor managed by state institutions. Due to the inherent heterogeneity of this premise, the conceptual framework to inscribe this construct appears immediately complex, as it includes various forms of voluntary associations, collective actions, and social networks that play an indispensable role in promoting social cohesion, civic engagement, and democratization. Civil society operates both independently of the state and the market and in interaction with them; consequently, the organizational dimension is represented by individuals acting for the public interest through a democratic process, serving as mediators between public authorities and citizens.

In the context of the WE-PROPOSE project, civil society plays a fundamental role in supporting the reintegration process of migrant women returning to their countries of origin, particularly Tunisia and Morocco. WE-PROPOSE aims to map and examine the associations and networks that assist migrant women in Italy, Tunisia, and Morocco, evaluating their role at different stages of the return and reintegration process. This project focuses on "prosocial" and self-help associations that act as intermediaries and NGOs and associations that are part of the cooperation and support network for migrant women. WE-PROPOSE emphasizes the importance of civil society in facilitating the voluntary return and reintegration of migrant women, promoting entrepreneurship and economic autonomy through training programs and business incubation tools.
