Project

WE-PROPOSE aims to investigate the empowerment and agency of returning migrant women

It aims to focus, through primary data collection and analysis, personal interviews and focus groups, on the experiences of success and failure, emancipation and protagonism of these migrants, promoting the integration of women into the labour force and the development of entrepreneurial skills. Through a mixed-methods research design, it collects and analyses primary data with personal interviews and focus groups, as well as secondary data from international and national datasets organised on time series covering the period 2011-2023.

The reference topics mainly concern women's return flows and indicators of women's empowerment. The research approach also includes an assessment of the impact of migration policies specifically on women. Following the EU Commission's 2021 indications and in order to verify the effectiveness of regulations on return migration and possible improvements, WE-PROPOSE also envisages an impact assessment of migration policies with a gender approach.

SO WE-PROPOSE ASKS THE FOLLOWING RESEARCH QUESTIONS:

WHAT ARE THE INDIVIDUAL MOTIVATIONAL ASPECTS THAT CHARACTERISE RETURN MIGRATION CHOICES?

WHAT ARE THE REGULATORY, ECONOMIC, SOCIAL AND CULTURAL CONTEXTUAL FACTORS THAT HELP DEFINE A SATISFACTORY MIGRATION PROJECT?

HOW SHOULD THESE PHENOMENA BE INTERPRETED WITH RESPECT TO THE RHETORIC OF FAILURE THAT OFTEN ACCOMPANIES MIGRATORY RETURN PRACTICES?
